Awkward and Awesome Thursday

It's the Final Countdown! We're off to Kokomo tomorrow!
Awkward:
  • A patient clipping her fingernails in our waiting room. Ugh, I really feel like that's an activity that should be restricted to your own bathroom. blegh.
  • Waiting 2 hours to get 3 tires changed on our car. Apparently it is rocket science.
  • A patient brought his "service" dog in with him last week. It was the most hyperactive golden retriever I've ever met. It just tore through the entire office smelling and rubbing on everything. Our office smelled like dirty wet dog the rest of the day. Needless to say the pup was a pet, NOT a service dog. However small details like that don't stop the whole of St. George from bringing their animals everywhere with them.
  • Finding out halfway through your haircut that your hairdresser works for the WalMart salon during the day. She did a great job though so it all ended well.

Awesome:
  • Getting our flight changed! They switched our original flights, leaving us with a 10 HOUR layover. So Chad called last night and got us on a later flight with a short layover that will get there earlier. Awesome sauce.
  • Chopping 7 inches off my hair!
  • Making time to go play the piano last weekend.
  • Knowing we get to see a ton of family and some great friends in just a few days :)

Too Much Fun

Sunday Funday!

Sunday we got to catch up with one of our awesome friends Andy. We hadn't seen him in yeeeeaaaars. We were both surprised to see Jacob and his wife, I still picture him as a kid on our living room floor trading Pokémon cards with my brother. We got to meet Andy's awesome wife, Danielle. We hung out, caught up, ate and tracked down some diet coke :)

Oh Monday.... holiday's are the absolute best. We slept in, rode our bikes out in the sunshine to get a lovely subway lunch, came home and watched Arrested Development to our hearts content and then decided to go out and see if we could find some deals :) I needed a sports bra and Chad needed some shorts. Thank you TJMaxx.

Then of course, we went rock climbing. It's easily Chad's favorite thing to do right now, and it's quickly turning into something I like as well :) While I may not be very good, it's still a fun sport, and hanging out in the sunshine all afternoon with my guy and my pup isn't a bad deal at all. Chad's getting really good, and I'm able to climb things without having emotional breakdowns. It's a win-win.

Well it was a win-win situation until we hiked back up to our car and accidently locked our keys inside and then discovered we had a flat tire. That's a loose-loose. It was 9pm and we were out in the desert with very little options. After a few choice words we gathered ourselves (and the pup) up and decided to just run the 3ish miles home. It wasn't that far. We'd only been rock climbing for 3 hours. We finally realized how dark it would be when we would have to run the 3 miles back, that it would all be uphill, and we still needed to somehow break into our house for the spare key.

Finally coming to our senses we realized we needed to beg someone to help. So we called a couple from church to come and rescue us. They were more than willing and we are still super grateful. We easily broke in through the kitchen window (such a secure house we have) and they drove us all the way back to our car. Chad put on our spare and we were out of there in no time.... kinda.

It was 10:30 and we were beyond exhausted from climbing and running and only having a stupid subway sandwich all day. So we ended the day with some of the only food available in the bustling town of St George at 10:30, Dominos. Along with ridiculous amounts of water and the rest of Arrested Devolvement we finished out our holiday weekend, thoroughly exhausted and happy.

Sittin' Pretty

Is anyone else overly excited about the 3 day weekend that is upon us! We literally have no plans, as of yet, but I am sooooo happy! No answering phones, no sweeping up toenails, no smelly feet and no dementia patients yelling at me about who the heck knows what. Hagen Daz!!! You're on your own this weekend people, you'll have to put your own shoes on! Mwahahahaha

Remember when I told you about trying to suck it up and run more, and actually be able to run a half marathon in a couple months? I've actually been sticking to that plan. What?! Crazy sauce, I know. Granted the first two weeks consisted mostly of 2-3 mile runs but I'm hoping they've established a pattern, and I think that they have for the most part. I'm trying to throw some P90X in there as well, that hasn't happened all that much, but the running has! And that my friends, is a win.

It's starting to be deathly hot around here. Hello 100 degrees, so glad you could join us in... May?!!?! So I'm either going to have to run at night or attempt to wake up in the morning. Sick of hearing about me trying to wake up before 8am? Yeah, I'm sick of it as well. I need to find a race that starts around 9pm. That would be perfect. Because while I don't want to wake up early for anything, once 11pm hits I'm down for the count. There's really a very brief window of time where I feel up and awake, unless there's some serious red bull involved.

Enjoy your 3 day weekend peeps!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward:
  • Having a dementia patient point out that your putting their shoes on the wrong feet.
  • My toes going numb while rock climbing (Sunday) and having them stay numb until today.
  • Starting Pandora on my phone while out running and accidently throwing it on the ground and shattering the screen. Usually I have a dog in one hand and my keys and phone in another and can manage just fine. That night I literally just had my phone that was going in the sock around my arm. Yes, I said sock. It was apparently too much to handle. Good thing I have an upgrade next month.
  • Wearing a sock around my arm to hold my phone while I run. I don't have a case so Chad saw something online where you cut off the toes of your sock and then put it around your arm, put your phone/iPod/whatevs next and then fold the sock up over it. Works like a charm.
Awesome:
  • The new Star Trek movie.
  • Caffeine
  • 3 day weekends
  • Sleeping in way too late on weekends
  • Foam rolling, it's magical.
  • Sno cones. Sno cones will forever be on the awesome list until summer is over and they tear them away from us.

Adventures in Rock Climbing

It was a rock climbing weekend for us!

Chad fell for the first time while lead climbing. Instead of having the rope secured at the top of the rock, he clips in along certain points as he climbs. About 3/4 of the way up he realized he was stuck. The fun part, he was going to have to fall the distance to where he was last secured in... plus that distance again because of the length of rope. I'm sure you can imagine how excited I was when he announced he was going to have to fall.

I pulled the rope in tight and then he let go.

There was slightly more force behind this fall then when he's secured up at the top, and I was NOT ready for it. He pulled me up and I smashed into a boulder landing on my knees... BUT I was still holding onto that rope for dear life. I looked up and saw Chad dangling a couple feet up from the ground. Bam! Life saved. Your welcome.

Sunday we went out again. Chad was determined to have me climb to the top of something. If you remember, I usually freak out about 10ish feet off the ground and plead to come down. What can I say, dangling on the side of a rock with the wind whipping past me and my whole body weight supported by my numb toes ain't normally my idea of a good time. No matter how far off the ground.

To be honest though, I really wanted to be able to make it to the top.

Until I started climbing that is.

I really want to be able to make it to the top until I'm about halfway and then I don't care about anything except standing on the ground again.

About halfway up is when I had a meltdown. Crying and shaking and scared. It was pathetic guys. I had climbed that far before and I really don't know why I had to freak out so bad.

There were multiple times I tried to convince Chad that I couldn't do it. I needed to be let down. It just wasn't going to happen. But you know what? I finally freaking did. It may not have been pretty, or graceful or tear-free. But I made it to the freaking top!!!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

What most of last week looked like. You can't beat puppy snuggles.
Awkward:
  • Chad whipping a dodge ball at a 10 year old(ish) at trampoline land, bending his fingernail back and making him cry like a little girl. In his defense they boy was cheating. If that wasn't bad enough... it was the little boys birthday party. Way to kill the party Chad. Birthday ruined.
  • One of our nursing home patients saying Haggen Daz over and over and over. It was like a turrets thing of sorts. Best use though was when he would replace all of the normal slew of swear words that older people enjoy with the simple phrase, "Haggen Daz!!!". You would not believe what comes out of these seniors mouths, worse than high school hallways by a mile.
  • A patient calling and trying to set me up with his reformed nephew who's rich. It was a long conversations starting with, "Now are you still married?". All in all it was kinda flattering as he said he was really impressed by me. Flattering/Creepy.. then confusing when he told me he used to "pick people in hotels". What does that even mean? I'll take what I can get I guess. Once Chad heard the guy was rich he told me to go for it ;)
  • Almost getting neighbors. Last Friday night there were a bunch of people next door partying until 4:30 am. Not just kinda loud but the throwing up on the back patio kind of loud as someone yelled to hold the drunk girls hair. Then... magically.... they were gone. Literally the next morning before 10am they were all gone, never to be seen again. And while I'm confused, I'm fine living with the confusion as long as I never see hear them again.
Awesome:
  • Killing the cockroach I found in the shower all by myself! What? You don't immediately call someone in to kill all the bugs for you? Chad was in bed sick so I figured this one was on me. Luckily there was a cup in the bathroom I could get him into before flushing him. Goodbye!
  • My office manager stopping by my house after a couponing extravaganza and gave us half of her trunk full of groceries! Super generous and delicious :)
  • Chad on pain killers.
  • Chad taking me shopping on Mother's Day!
  • Restocking our candy drawer at the 39 cent candy sale while waiting for a prescription. KitKats and Almond Joys and Snickers, oh my!

Before and Afters

I know I've mentioned it before but... my hubby's awesome.

In the weeks before getting married he decided to build a bed for us. So he spent hours and hours outside in my parent's garage just kinda winging it. And it turned out awesome. I loved it and loved knowing that Chad spent all that time making it for us.

We then moved the bed from the garage into our first apartment. And when I say "we" I mean Chad and his friends and my brother. I was lucky enough to be at work and get out of moving it, soooo heavy. 2 years later it moved back to the parents. Then across the country, up a flight of stairs into our room and into a guest room. 3 1/2 years later the time had come. So it made one final move.

Back down the stairs, into the car, over a cliff and into a bonfire. A huge, hot bonfire. It was a spectacular and fun ending to our favorite bed.

I like to Move It, Move It

It's been pretty quiet around our house. Chad's been hopped up on pain killers and hasn't left the bed much. I've been trying to keep him comfortable, keep his meds coming, and pack his lovely wound. It's a good thing Dr. E could show me the ropes, otherwise I don't know if I could have handled the grossness. Because it's gross.

Moving on from my husbands open, gaping wound...

And on to my back. Yikes. I'll spare you the rambling and lists of complaints and just say that I think that the solution is to work out and stretch, stretch, stretch. And then stretch some more. Along with heat and ice (thank you again Dr. E). If you haven't noticed, Dr. E has been saving us lately.

So because I need the daily exercise for multiple reasons I figured that this was in order:

Half Marathon Training Schedule:

Have I signed up for a race? Um... no. Mostly because I don't want to shell out a bunch of money and partly because there really aren't any races near here until we get closer to the fall and the sun isn't trying to bake us alive. Until I find something I'll just have to let my back and the shooting pain into my leg be my motivator. Hopefully by the time Chad's healed up I'll be able to keep up better with him and he can just jump into the plan with me!

Wish me luck peeps :)

What the junk week? Why have you got to be so awful. Hopefully the end of the week will bring an end to the suckiness.

Just in case you need some cheering up I thought I share a little of what Chad and I enjoyed last night after the urgent care. If jerky animals don't cheer you up I don't know what will. BTW I now want a baby goat more than ever. Hi-larious.

...

We've had a long week.

In addition to the continuing joys of having no health insurance Sunny escaped a week ago.

We found out yesterday from some kids that he was hit by a car last weekend.

So I've got nothing particularly funny to report about today. We are both just sad that Chad lost one of his best friends. He was getting old and tired and we wished we could have held on to him a little longer. He survived a house fire and being set free by a crazy neighbor. He only ever wanted to be loved and snuggled, usually on top of your face. He was an awesome cat and we miss him like crazy.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Rukia on our "run". It was a little hot and we were a little tired.
Awkward:
  • Trying to figure out what we were going to do when we ran out of gas in the middle of the desert in Utah. Luckily we didn't have to walk 20 miles or call Ash and Pat to come rescue us. Geesh. Thanks for leaving out those 2 vital gas stations google maps.
  • Ashley wondering who the man was who was chatting with me and Chad in the gas station. Someone from church? Ha, no. Work? No. School? Nope. We are just BFF's with people who work at our beloved Maverick.
  • Feeling a tug on the leash as Rukia and I were running in the ridiculous heat. So I slow down and turn around to see her sitting in the middle of the sidewalk. And as soon as I stopped to laugh at her she ran over to the grass and flopped over and laid down. Then rolled on to her back. I think she was done. I know I was. We walked the rest of the way :)
  • Our A/C keeps stopping. To be more specific, the fan keeps stopping while the A/C unit keeps running and our house stays 90. Slightly too hot for me.... especially in May. The maintenance guy has been over twice and the fan is always running like a freaking champ when he gets here. Uncomfortable....

Awesome:
  • Ash and Pat following us down after our Idaho vacation to spend the week with us.
  • Parmesan potato chips from Kneaders.
  • The sweet new air mattress that Ash and Pat let us use when we slept at their house. It's heaven and absolutely nothing like an air mattress.
  • Speaking of awesome mattresses we got to sleep on the best mattress at the Grandparents house. In the chilly basement with a thousand blankets. The Best.
  • Giant bonfires in the gorge.

LLamas and Munchkins and Pancakes, Oh My!

The view from my Grandparents front window
Last weekend Ash and Pat were finally able to convince us to make the drive up to Montpelier with them to show the boys the town and hang out with the grandparents. We started up on Thursday, spent the night in Provo on Friday, and then made it into Montpelier Friday afternoon. Phew.

The grandparents may have loved that we took the longest way to get there. They also loved that Chad ordered 3 pancakes at the Ranch Hand. They loved showing off their beautiful home and Susie the vacuum. They loved taking us all on their house tour, showing us all the homes they had lived in. Grandpa gave us the extended tour that included a few more houses, property and the Mill. They loved that they boys were able to help out Uncle Stephen and get some yard work done and they loved that the girls could help with some handwriting. Grandpa loved teaching the boys to play snooker.

Ash and I loved wandering through Kings, watching the boys reaction as we passed cows, sheep and llamas on the way into town, and seeing the jankiest house with the junkiest trailer people ever... ever. We found out later that this was on the grandparents home tour, in fact grandpa found their landlord dead there. It was kinda fitting. Patrick almost died when we pulled up and stopped outside this trashpit house and grandpa told the story. We loved visiting with Aunt Peggy and Uncle Stephen into the wee hours of the morning. We loved trying to find something to eat for dinner and finally just going to every single fast food place in the town.... Subway and Arctic Circle.

We rounded out the trip with games of Munchkin, lots of sushi on the way home, and Chad and I almost running out of gas in the middle of nowhere in the middle of Utah. Next time we'll have to go up in the summer so we can take Grandpa out to the lake with us and wait 4 years to eat at the Bear Cave. I never did get my raspberry shake so we'll be back ;)
